18-year-old Biker Dies in Crash at Highway 544 and 814 While Trying to Escape Police

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (KHN) – An 18-year-old Myrtle Beach man was slain Wednesday night while attempting to avoid police on his motorcycle.

Lane Stiff, 18, was killed around 4:30 p.m. after colliding with a car at the crossroads of Highway 544 and Highway 814, Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said late Wednesday.

According to Brennan Cavanaugh, a spokesperson for the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, a South Carolina Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a motorcycle but the driver failed to stop.

The biker continued past the intersection of routes 544 and 814, colliding with one vehicle, which then collided with another.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the biker died as a result of their injuries.

The individual’s identify was not immediately revealed.
