As President-elect Donald Trump gets ready for his second term, Vice President Kamala Harris urged leaders to “stay in the fight” on Tuesday.
Speaking to students and other young community leaders in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Harris said she has received tens of thousands of emails in recent weeks from individuals all around the nation expressing their opinions about the election.
“There is a common theme among these letters. According to her, young people are “impatient for change” and will “not let anyone or any circumstance” break their spirit or purpose. While there is disappointment, there is also resolve for the future.
The young audience cheered and applauded Harris’s speech, but she made no mention of Trump.
Sen.-elect Angela Alsobrooks, Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller, and Gov. Wes Moore were among the Maryland Democrats present at the ceremony. Harris won Prince George’s County by more than 74 points, and the state by more than 28 points.
Following the victory of Trump, “many people have come up to me, telling me they feel tired, maybe even resigned, folks who said to me that they re not sure whether they have the strength, much less the desire, to stay in the fight,” Harris stated.
Her words, “We must stay in the fight,” “Every one of us.”
Harris urged everyone to take a break during the holidays and return “ready to march into the future” to continue fighting for freedom and opportunity.
Since losing the race to Trump last month, Harris has mostly stayed out of the spotlight.
Trump gained support from people under 30, especially young men, while Harris did better overall among young voters.
