KHN – A Sunriver family accused of child abuse was caught Friday at a motel on the Oregon coast, where they were hiding from police, officials said.
Sarah Marie Session, 33, and her parents, Gary and Paula Hardenburg, 65 and 60, are charged with a total of 28 counts of child abuse, including second-degree attempted murder, according to court records.
According to the indictment, Session, an Oregon licensed teacher, struck a preteen child in her care with curtain rods and a doorstopper before forcing the youngster to consume vomit. She also allegedly denied the youngster food and medical attention, according to the indictment.
Along with the second-degree attempted murder allegation, she was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, five instances of third-degree assault, eight counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, and two acts of compulsion, according to court records.
Session filed a divorce suit in 2022, revealing that she has two children and a stepchild.
Session and her parents were indicted on Tuesday after an investigation by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.
Paula Hardenburg, Session’s mother, is charged with second-degree assault, first- and second-degree criminal mistreatment of the kid, and tampering with physical evidence, according to court records. Gary Hardenburg, Session’s father, is also facing accusations of evidence tampering, as well as first and second-degree criminal mistreatment.
