Vincent Jean, a city man, has been convicted by a Union County jury of attempted murder for a horrific road rage incident involving a 23-year-old woman. The incident occurred after a minor car crash, where Jean ran over the victim three times with his car.
The jury delivered the verdict on Friday after a two-week trial. Jean was found guilty of several charges, including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
According to Union County Prosecutor William Daniel, the incident took place on the morning of April 12, 2022. Jean and the victim were involved in a minor fender bender, after which Jean attempted to flee the scene in his Mitsubishi SUV.
As the victim got out of her car to take photos, Jean began turning his car around. Shocking video footage captured the moment when Jean blared his horn at the victim as she ran across a front lawn in an attempt to escape. Despite her efforts, Jean drove over her once, then reversed and ran over her again.
The horrifying incident continued as Jean ran over the victim a third time before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended by authorities while sitting in his vehicle.
The victim, identified as Morgan Scott, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition. She sustained multiple fractures, including three fractured bones in her neck, a broken femur, broken ribs, and a lacerated liver. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support her recovery, raising approximately $130,000.
Despite the severity of her injuries, update videos posted later in the year showed Scott undergoing physical therapy and regaining her ability to walk, demonstrating her remarkable resilience in the face of adversity.
This was not the first time Jean had been involved in a deliberate vehicular assault. In 2007, he intentionally rammed his Ford Ranger into a Honda motorcycle in a Costco parking lot, causing serious injuries to the motorcyclist.
The conviction of Vincent Jean serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of road rage and the devastating consequences it can have. It underscores the importance of addressing anger and frustration in a safe and constructive manner to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
