A disturbing incident unfolded in Gainesville, Florida, as a 15-year-old boy fled his home and sought refuge in a local Walgreens, prompting the arrest of his father, Solomon Bennett, on suspicion of child abuse. According to reports from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Bennett confessed to resorting to physical punishment after his son allegedly displayed disrespect and failed to complete his chores. The situation escalated when the boy defied his father’s instructions and was subsequently subjected to a brutal assault.
Bennett admitted to forcing his son to strip naked before repeatedly striking him with a leather belt. The severity of the injuries, marked by dark red belt lines across the child’s body, exceeded the boundaries of reasonable discipline. Moreover, Bennett’s son revealed that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over a video, which further escalated when Bennett resorted to punching him in the head. The abuse reached a critical point when the traumatized teenager made a daring escape through the window of their third-story apartment at the Bellamay Grand complex.
Witnesses reported hearing distressing screams and noticed the boy clinging to the window ledge, pleading for assistance. Ultimately, the teenager sought refuge at a nearby Walgreens store, where he arrived in a state of distress, naked, and covered in blood. His courageous act led to the intervention of law enforcement and Bennett’s subsequent arrest.
