Early Monday marked the official start of Hollywood’s awards season with the announcement of the 82nd Golden Globes film nominees, which included the genre-bending song “Emilia Prez,” the wartime epic “The Brutalist,” and the mystery set in the Vatican, “Conclave.”

The Bob Dylan biographical “A Complete Unknown,” the science-fiction extravaganza “Dune: Part Two,” the novel adaptation “Nickel Boys,” and the thriller set in 1972, “September 5,” joined “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” in the best drama picture category.

The madcap romance “Anora,” the sultry love triangle “Challengers,” the familial comedy “A Real Pain,” the body-horror satire “The Substance,” and the blockbuster fantasy “Wicked” are all contenders for the title of best comedy or musical film.

(“Conclave” and “Wicked” were distributed by NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.)

With ten nominations, “Emilia Prez” is the most nominated movie, but critics still think there is a wide open race for best picture at the March Academy Awards.

Three actors received two nominations: Kate Winslet for the film Lee and the HBO miniseries The Regime; Selena Gomez for Emilia Prez and the Hulu television series Only Murders in the Building; and Sebastian Stan for the movies The Apprentice and A Different Man.

Leading contenders on the television side are FX’s “The Bear,” a hectic depiction of a Chicago eatery, and “Sh gun,” a sprawling drama set in feudal Japan. Both shows are favored by critics.

Actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut revealed the nominees in 27 categories at 8:15 a.m. ET. Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser will host the awards presentation, which will air live on CBS and the streaming service Paramount+ on January 5.

The Carol Burnett Award, which celebrates someone who has made exceptional achievements to television on or off screen, will be given to Ted Danson, a small-screen mainstay, at this year’s Globes in addition to the customary parade of trophies and speeches.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award will also be given to Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis.
