The league revealed on Tuesday that the 2025 NBA All-Star Game will feature a three-game competition with four teams.
On February 16, the new All-Star format will include three games in a single day. The 24 NBA All-Star choices will make up three of the teams, while the winner of the Rising Stars game, which was played earlier in the weekend and included rookies and second-year players, will make up the fourth team in the tournament.
The first team reaching 40 points wins each of the two semifinal matches that precede the final.
In recent seasons, the league has made changes to its All-Star event in an effort to make it more competitive. Previously, the game ended with a target score rather than a timed fourth quarter, or player captains drafted the teams instead of using the East vs. West structure.

The 2024 All-Star game’s lack of defensive effort drew harsh criticism. The East won 211-186, marking the first time a side had scored more than 200 points in an All-Star game, and it was the first East vs. West match since 2017.
In this season’s version, honorary general managers Charles Barkley, Shaquille O. Neal, and Kenny Smith will draft the 24 All-Stars into three teams following their selection by a vote by fans, players, and the media. The Rising Stars entrant’s general manager will be WNBA icon Candace Parker.
The All-Star draft is scheduled for February 6.
The vote format, which is weighted 50% in favor of fans, 25% for players, and 25% for media, will remain unchanged.
The winning team will receive $125,000 for each participant, while the runners-up will receive $50,000 and third and fourth place will receive $25,000.
San Francisco will host the All-Star Games for the first time in its history in 2025.
