Riverside County residents are bracing for another winter storm as rain and snowfall sweep through the region, prompting weather advisories and flood watches. The storm, expected to taper off by Wednesday evening, has brought light showers since Monday afternoon, with precipitation intensifying in the mountains and valleys.
A flood watch, effective from Monday night through Wednesday morning, covers the Riverside and San Bernardino County mountains, as well as the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. Forecasters warn of potential flooding in areas with poor drainage and advise vigilance against rock slides and debris on mountain roads.
In addition to the flood watch, a winter weather advisory remains in place until Wednesday morning for the mountains. Rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 1.75 inches are anticipated in the Inland Empire, with higher amounts expected in the Riverside County mountains. Snow levels are forecasted to hover around 8,000 feet initially before descending to 6,000 to 6,500 feet by Wednesday morning, with significant accumulations of 1 to 2 feet possible above 8,000 feet.
Gusty southwest to west winds, reaching peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph in the mountains and up to 30 mph in the deserts, further compound the hazardous conditions. Residents are urged to exercise caution, particularly in mountainous areas and along desert highways, where visibility may be reduced and driving conditions compromised.
While the storm is projected to clear by Thursday, mild temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend. However, the forecast includes the possibility of more light rain next Monday, underscoring the dynamic nature of winter weather patterns in the region.
