Nicolas D. Vega, a 26-year-old resident of west Miami-Dade, found himself in hot water after being apprehended on nearly a dozen felony charges on Sunday. The arrest came after officers discovered Vega’s bold disdain for law enforcement inked on his chest in the form of a tattoo reading “F— the police.”
According to Miami-Dade police, Vega is accused of a string of offenses, including the theft of an SUV from a McDonald’s in Miami, as well as the pilfering of almost a dozen bank and identification cards.
The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon when officers received a report of a “suspicious vehicle” at Vega’s residence in the Westchester area. Upon arrival, police observed Vega driving a stolen silver Chevrolet Trailblazer around the block, entering and exiting it multiple times.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day from a nearby McDonald’s in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood. Vega was then spotted attempting to enter another SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe, with two other individuals inside.
Law enforcement swiftly moved in, detaining all three individuals. Witnesses, described as friends of Vega, claimed innocence, stating they had stopped to greet him and were unaware of the stolen vehicle’s ownership.
During the arrest, police discovered Vega’s wallet in a bag containing 10 bank and identification cards belonging to two victims: the person who reported the stolen vehicle and the vehicle owner.
As Vega was transported to jail on charges including grand theft auto and possession of stolen identification cards, he shouted out to a detective, expressing concern about his belongings left in the car.
Currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, Vega faces a bond of over $30,000 on charges that also include possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. His arrest serves as a reminder of the serious consequences individuals face when engaging in criminal activities.
This incident underscores the diligent efforts of law enforcement in South Florida to combat crime and ensure public safety. As Vega awaits further legal proceedings, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
