Tioga wrestling is poised to make waves at the New York State Division II Tournament in Albany this Friday and Saturday, eyeing a historic performance with a formidable lineup of talent. The Tigers, boasting a flawless 12-0 record and securing their seventh consecutive Section IV Championship, will send an impressive contingent of 10 wrestlers to the tournament, each eager to etch their names into Tioga wrestling lore.
Leading the charge are standout wrestlers Ousmane Duncanson and Gianni Silvestri, both undefeated this season at 29-0 and 30-0, respectively. Duncanson, a two-time defending New York State Champion, and Silvestri, a formidable contender in the 138-pound category, are both vying for their third state titles, which would mark a historic achievement for Tioga wrestling as the first-ever three-time state title winners.
Accompanying them is defending state champ Caden Bellis, determined to add another title to his accolades in the 152-pound division. With a record of 29-1, Bellis is eyeing a triumphant finish to his high school career before transitioning to collegiate wrestling at The University of Pennsylvania.
Coach Kris Harrington exudes confidence in his team, emphasizing a business-as-usual approach as they head into the tournament. With a roster of seasoned athletes and promising newcomers, Tioga is poised to make its mark on the state wrestling scene.
The Tigers’ preparation has been meticulous, with six Section IV Championship wrestlers among their ranks. As they gear up for the competition, each member of the team is focused and determined to seize the moment.
For Duncanson, who boasts an impressive record of 111-2 over the last three seasons, the tournament represents an opportunity to showcase his unparalleled skill and determination.
Silvestri, seeking redemption after a second-place finish last year, approaches the tournament with unwavering determination. Despite facing formidable opponents, including top-seeded Brayden Fahrbach of Mount Sinai, Silvestri remains undaunted and ready to reclaim his title.
Similarly, Bellis, aiming to improve upon his previous second-place finish, is confident in the team’s preparation and readiness for the challenge ahead.
