MELBOURNE, Fla. (KHN) -Melbourne Police are investigating after a youngster was hit twice by two different cars while crossing a roadway in Melbourne.
A 14-year-old boy was hit by two different cars while sprinting across Sarno Road in Melbourne. Security footage shows the toddler getting hit by a blue automobile, followed by a gray car, which pushed them onto the grass. The infant survived and was transported to an Orlando hospital, where they are currently in stable condition.
Melbourne Police have not established whether speed or irresponsible driving contributed to the incident. It is unknown whether the drivers involved would face penalties or if further safety precautions will be imposed in the region.
Residents have long expressed worries about traffic safety on Sarno Road, with some claiming it is dangerous due to fast-moving vehicles. Neighbors say the event illustrates recurring safety dangers for pedestrians, particularly youngsters, in the area.
With schools nearby and children routinely crossing the road, locals are urging drivers and parents to be extra cautious. Some believe that infrastructure upgrades, such as repainted crosswalks, can help prevent future accidents.
Blake Moia, a resident, described the region as “like the Daytona 500” and believes that safety measures are required. “Slow down and pay attention. “Stay off your phones,” Moia advised drivers.
Renee Atasoy, another neighbor, expressed alarm about speeding autos. “I never know when a car is going to come running through the house.”
Melbourne Police continue to investigate, and witnesses are encouraged to contact the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
