76-year-old Man Killed, Woman Injured in Head-on Crash on U.S. 280 in Shelby County

KHN – A man was killed and a woman was injured in a head-on incident on U.S. 280 in Shelby County on Wednesday afternoon, authorities confirmed Thursday.

Donald M. Harris, 76, was driving a 2010 Toyota Tacoma when it crashed head-on with a 2023 Mazda CX-9 around 3:53 p.m. Wednesday, roughly three miles south of Chelsea, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Vu Quang.

Harris, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

A 46-year-old woman driving the Mazda was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment of unidentified injuries.

As state troopers continued to investigate the wreck, no further information was released.
