78-year-old Woman Killed, Driver Injured in Potter County Crash After Truck Runs Stop Sign

KHNAccording to the Texas Department of Public Safety, one person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle incident in Potter County Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. two miles northeast of Amarillo. According to early findings, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on Lakeside Drive and approaching a stop sign with FM 1912, whereas a 2014 Kia Forte was traveling west. Investigators suspect the truck driver ignored the stop sign and continued onto FM 1912, directly into the path of the Kia.

The Kia’s front left bumper then collided with the Silverado’s right front quarter panel.

Maria Federico, 78, of Spearman, a passenger in the Kia, had critical injuries and was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital, where she died.

Daniel Rojas, 62, of Spearman, the Kia’s driver, was seriously injured and transferred to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital. Both occupants of the car wore seat belts.

The driver of the pickup, an Oklahoma resident, was not wounded.

The accident is still under investigation.
