In a late-night incident in the Hudson Valley, a man faces legal repercussions following an SUV’s collision into a Newburgh home. The event unfolded shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, when New York State Police, operating out of the Montgomery barracks, attempted to halt a 2018 Nissan Murano for violations of vehicle and traffic laws on Creek Run Road in Orange County’s Town of Newburgh.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 21-year-old Hector Balbuena of Newburgh, did not comply with the stop request and initiated a pursuit with state troopers. During the chase, Balbuena lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the SUV crashing into a residence on Woodlawn Terrace, causing considerable damage to the property.
The impact injured one person inside the home, who received treatment at the scene for minor injuries. Balbuena was extracted from the vehicle and transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where he was treated for minor injuries before being handed over to the New York State Police.
Following his treatment, Balbuena was charged with multiple vehicle and traffic law violations and was given an appearance ticket for the Town of Newburgh Court scheduled for Tuesday, May 7.
The response to the crash included support from the Town of Newburgh Police, along with Fire and EMS services. The New York State Police have indicated that their investigation into the incident is still in progress.
