A Miami plastic surgeon working out of a strip mall was charged by the Florida Department of Health with being responsible for a patient’s death in 2023 due to a botched Brazilian butt lift.
According to an administrative complaint against him, Dr. Fermin Morales, a surgeon at New Life Plastic Surgery and Boutinic Aesthetics in West Miami-Dade, reportedly made a fatal error by injecting fat into the wrong place in the glutes of an unidentified patient.
In 2023, Morales continued to practice at Venus Cosmetic Institute/DASO Plastic Surgery, located in a Doral, Florida strip mall. A 40-year-old woman identified in the complaint by the initials “S.L.” sought a Brazilian butt lift, also known as “liposuction with gluteal fat grafting,” in June of that year.
BBLs usually involve moving belly and back fat to the glutes without using the glute muscles. It is against the Florida Administrative Code and lethal to insert it into the muscles.
According to the lawsuit, Morales injected the fat into S.L.’s glute muscles after using an ultrasound to assist him in doing so.
The woman passed away the following day after the nearly instantaneous hit.
According to the report, an autopsy “discovered copious globules of lacerated fat throughout S.L.’s left and right superficial and deep gluteal muscles.” Her left lung arteries also had more fat globules in the blood.
Prior to the death, Morales’ medical license, which he obtained in 2011, was spotless. Since 2009, the American Board of Surgery has granted him board certification.
Numerous New Life plastic surgeons have been accused of unintentional deaths, including Morales.
Dr. Naveed Nosrati was sued for malpractice in 2022 after a deadly pulmonary embolism from a botched abdominoplasty. The claim was settled for $250,000 by his insurance company.
Dr. Julio Clavijo-Alvarez made a mistake with his drain placement and was penalized by the state in another BBL gone wrong. Additionally, he was found to have pre-signed blank prescription paperwork.
BBLs are quite delicate, like many cosmetic procedures, and there are more chances for complications than the typical patient understands.
Another UK woman who went to Turkey for a BBL passed away in the recovery area after the procedure. Parts of her heart, lungs, and brain were gone by the time her body was brought home.

Even people who have survived very catastrophic treatments continue to have more done, but the trend is still ongoing.
In order to help her achieve her gym objectives of having a bigger behind, a woman in the UK sought a BBL, but it basically left her butt rotting from the inside out.
