Good News for Veterans G.I. Bill Benefits May Be Extended for Another Year!

Have you completed two or more periods of service as a Veteran? Do you mean that you reenlisted? You may qualify for additional G.I. Bill benefits if that is the case.

VA declared that it has made changes to the way it distributes G.I. Bill benefits.

This implies that a large number of Veterans who served in the military for several periods of time (such as Veterans who reenlisted) can qualify for extra benefits for themselves or their dependents.

In particular, the prior policy required qualified Veterans with at least two periods of service to select between the Montgomery GI Bill and the Post-9/11 GI Bill in order to receive up to 36 months of G.I. Bill payments.

Veterans will be eligible for up to 48 months of G.I. Bill benefits under the revised policy, which eliminates the need for them to make that decision when they apply for benefits.

Additional, retroactive benefits are now available to many Veterans.

In particular, Veterans may be eligible for up to 12 months of additional G.I. Bill benefits (up to 48 months total) if they served for at least two periods of service, one of which qualified them for the Montgomery G.I. Bill and the other for the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.

Additional, retroactive G.I. Bill benefits of 12 months may be available to some Veterans, increasing their total compensation to 48 months.

Is there anything I need to do?

Approximately 660,000 of the 1.04 million Veterans who might be eligible for enhanced compensation will have their claims automatically adjudicated by VA without any additional action on their behalf.

VA will be contacting the remaining Veterans individually to urge them to submit a claim.

When is the application deadline for those who must act?
