At a recent rally, President Donald Trump announced major immigration policy changes aimed at reversing the Biden Administration’s border strategies.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that formal deportation notices have already been issued.
A DHS spokesperson emphasized, “Those affected are encouraged to voluntarily self-deport by using the CBP Home app. If they don’t comply, they will be located, removed, and permanently banned from reentering the United States.”
The CBP Home app — a new version of the CBP One app — is now the official tool for initiating self-deportation. DHS clarified that non-compliance will result in legal enforcement, including removal from the country.
President Biden Tours Coast Guard Facility
While President Joe Biden visited the Coast Guard Cutter Oak, DHS released a strong statement criticizing his administration’s immigration policies.
“The Biden Administration misused its parole authority to allow millions of illegal aliens into the U.S., creating the worst border crisis in our nation’s history,” the statement read.
“Under federal law, Secretary Kristi Noem, working with President Trump, has the power to revoke these pardons. Ending these unauthorized paroles fulfills our promise to secure the border and protect national security.”
New App Policy and End of Temporary Protections
The administration has also announced that the CBP One app will no longer be used for domestic travel or other immigration purposes. Its only remaining function is to assist with self-deportation.
Additionally, the government has canceled Temporary Protected Status (TPS) extensions for several nationalities — a move expected to affect more than 600,000 Venezuelan migrants.
Previously, TPS offered temporary deportation relief and work permits to people from countries experiencing unsafe conditions.
Impact on Migrants and Consequences for Overstays
Earlier in the year, parole was already revoked for migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. DHS officials are now urging all undocumented individuals to take immediate action.
“Illegal aliens should use the CBP Home app to self-deport and leave the U.S. now,” a spokesperson warned. “Those who ignore this order will face consequences — including a $998 daily fine for every day they overstay following a final deportation order.”
Exemptions Remain in Place for Certain Groups
The policy changes do not affect everyone. Migrants who entered through the Uniting for Ukraine program or those welcomed under Operation Allies Welcome (for Afghan nationals) remain exempt.
As Trump continues to campaign on tough immigration enforcement, the administration is signaling that restoring strict border control is a top priority — one they believe is key to national security and voter confidence heading into the next election.
