President Donald Trump has revealed plans to install two new 100-foot flagpoles on the White House grounds, each to fly the American flag.
The announcement was made during an impromptu walk around the North Lawn on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, where Trump was accompanied by White House groundskeeper Dale Haney.
Trump stated that the flagpoles would be “paid for by Trump” and are expected to be installed within a week.
The addition of these flagpoles aims to enhance the visibility of the American flag on the White House grounds. Currently, the American flag is flown atop the White House roof, and the POW/MIA flag has been displayed there since 2019.
Trump emphasized that the new flagpoles are a long-overdue improvement, stating, “They’ve needed flagpoles for 200 years.”
In addition to the flagpole installation, President Trump has been overseeing various aesthetic changes to the White House.
The Oval Office has undergone a redesign featuring golden accents, portraits of all U.S. presidents, and a wall-mounted copy of the Declaration of Independence. New artworks, including a portrait depicting a moment after last year’s assassination attempt, have also been added.
President Trump, a former real estate developer, has expressed a desire to leave a personal mark on the White House.
His spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, noted that Trump is always looking for ways to enhance the executive residence, reflecting his background in real estate development.
