Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced that he will be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires this summer.
The 26-year-old announced on his social media accounts, confirming that he will likely join Real Madrid on a free transfer starting July 1.
In explaining his decision, Alexander-Arnold revealed that after spending 20 years at Liverpool, he felt it was time to challenge himself in a new environment.
“I have never known anything else, and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone, and pushing myself both professionally and personally,” he said.
Alexander-Arnold leaves behind a lasting legacy at Liverpool. He will be remembered as one of the best full-backs in Premier League history and one of Liverpool’s greatest right-backs.
During his time at the club, he won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup. His contributions were vital in these successes.
Having come through the academy, Alexander-Arnold made his debut as a teenager under Jurgen Klopp and quickly became known for his exceptional goals, assists, and crosses from the right flank.

With 64 assists, he is the defender with the most assists in Premier League history. Alongside stars like Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, and Mohamed Salah, Alexander-Arnold was a key part of some of the greatest teams in Liverpool’s history.
In his 352 appearances for the club, he has accumulated 86 assists and 109 goal involvements, with only Salah making more appearances in all competitions since Alexander-Arnold’s debut.
While he has faced some criticism for his defensive abilities, his attacking contributions have more than made up for any occasional defensive lapses.
He was originally a midfielder before transitioning into an attacking right-back role. When in full flow, Alexander-Arnold is a joy to watch, capable of producing passes, free kicks, and crosses that others can only dream of.
Liverpool fans will undoubtedly be disappointed to see one of their players leave, but Alexander-Arnold has achieved everything he could at the club.
It seems clear that he is seeking a fresh challenge and a new chapter in his career. His departure this summer had always seemed likely, and it will be interesting to see how he performs at Real Madrid, if that indeed becomes his next destination.
