A plan to alleviate excessive lineups at the Division of Motor Vehicles was approved by the North Carolina House on Wednesday. For those who recently went to the DMV to obtain a REAL ID, the bill would permit online driver’s license renewals. Teen drivers would also be able to obtain their complete provisional license online without having to turn in a driving log. According to House Speaker Destin Hall, fewer people should have to wait in line at the DMV as a result of the reforms.
“I can’t think of anything more unacceptable than having to spend a whole day off traveling to a DMV. And you know, we need to grasp it, come up with some all-encompassing reforms, and find a solution,” he stated.
Additionally, Governor Josh Stein is anticipated to act shortly on a budget plan that would provide funding for four additional driver’s license offices and additional D-M-V employees.
