Students at Charlotte Preparatory School will begin the new school year this week in a brand-new $13 million facility, two years after a fire destroyed the lower school structure.
Charlotte Preparatory School officials celebrated the opening of their new lower school building on Saturday, highlighting the school community’s ability to bounce back from hardship.
Elementary kids were forced to move to modular classrooms after the June 2023 fire, which caused more than $2 million in damage. The new 24,000-square-foot facility is twice as large as the previous one, and the school’s capital campaign surpassed its initial projections. When the previous school burned down, Erica Glenn, whose 8-year-old son, Charlie Howell, attends the school, said it was unexpected.
However, we’ve been ecstatic since the new building’s construction began, and it’s been wonderful to see it rise and see how the community has come together to support the children and all that’s happening here,” Glenn remarked.
11 kindergarten–4th grade classrooms, a multipurpose dining hall that may be used as a venue for community events, and teacher collaboration offices are all characteristics of the new building. This Wednesday marks the start of the new school year.
