Fired Waco Funeral Home Worker Sues Employer for Retaliation After Complaining About Pay

A woman who used to work at a funeral home in Waco, Texas, has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, claiming she was wrongfully fired. The lawsuit was filed on May 20 in McLennan County court.

The woman, Lillie Price, worked at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. According to her, she was fired in October 2023 just a few days after she told her boss about some problems with how she was being paid.

She says that when she brought up these concerns, her employer acted in a way that felt like retaliation. She believes she was fired not for job performance but for speaking up about fair pay issues.

In her lawsuit, Price says that this violated Texas laws that protect workers from being punished for reporting such problems.

Price also mentioned that after her complaints, her working hours were cut and her responsibilities were changed, which she felt was unfair. Not long after that, she says she was fired.

The lawsuit claims that the funeral home’s actions caused her emotional stress and financial harm. Price is asking the court to make her former employer pay damages for what she went through.

As of now, Grace Gardens Funeral Home has not made any public comments on the lawsuit. The case is still in the early stages, and it will be up to the court to decide whether her firing was lawful or not.

This case brings attention to how important it is for employees to be able to report workplace problems without fear of losing their job.
