A bakery located in Colton, California, has been shut down by health officials after they found clear signs of a rodent and insect infestation.
The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health inspected the bakery and reported finding rodent droppings and active insects, leading to the immediate closure of the business.
The bakery, called Chokolatta, is situated at 495 N. Pepper Avenue. The inspection took place on May 29, 2025.
Health inspectors noted several violations that posed a serious risk to food safety. These included the presence of rodent feces in areas where food is handled or stored, as well as live insects in the kitchen.
According to the official report, the bakery was not maintaining basic cleanliness standards. The conditions were considered unsafe for food preparation and could lead to contamination and illness if left unaddressed.
The health department regularly checks food businesses to ensure they follow hygiene rules. If a business is found to be violating these rules, especially in cases where pests are involved, officials can order a shutdown until the issues are fixed.
As of now, the bakery must correct the problems and pass a follow-up inspection before it can reopen. The business has not yet released a public statement.
For consumers, this serves as a reminder of the importance of health inspections and food safety practices. Dirty kitchens and pest infestations can cause serious health risks, and health departments across the country continue to act quickly when such threats are found.
The San Bernardino County Health Department keeps a record of all food facility inspections and closures, which are publicly available for residents to check.
