Sending a message is the goal of the PAC purchases and assaults on Congressman Thomas Massie. Congress must continue to support the One Big Beautiful Bill, and Massie must be held accountable.
This strategy is an enormous error that will cripple Trump for the next three years and almost ensure a Democratic majority following the 2026 elections.
Massie’s voting and behavior patterns are not new. In order to prevent Obama from bombing Egypt, he supported an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act during his first year in Congress. A resolution to prevent Biden from attacking Yemen was co-sponsored by him. His resolve is entirely related to his distaste for bombing nations and has nothing to do with Trump. You can argue that he is mistaken, but it would be inaccurate to claim that this is related to hatred for Trump.
Two categories of Republicans exist. There are people who think that America will become bankrupt in the next ten to twelve years if nothing changes, and those who don’t. Bill is terrible if you’re a Republican who thinks something needs to change.
This could be the final opportunity for Republicans in the upcoming ten years. Since everyone will be focused on winning their races, nothing significant or contentious will be passed the following year. Nothing will pass between 2026 and 2028 since history indicates that the Republicans will probably lose the House in 2026. Then, there is no assurance that Republicans will win the president in 2028.
Future congresses cannot be forced to abide by a law. Congress just amends existing laws if they wish to do something that goes against them. Some Republicans don’t listen to folks like Scott Bessent when they discuss a ten-year plan. We don’t guarantee ten years. Naturally, the One Big Beautiful Bill won’t be accepted if you’re the kind of person who walks around with a debt clock on, like Massie does. You think the nation is on the verge of going bankrupt.
No one is entirely correct, so you have every right to disagree with Massie, but it is incorrect to assume that any of this is related to anti-Trump sentiment. Because the Republican Majority is so small, everyone is merely watching Massie do what he always does.
Though not often with his name on it, Massie does accomplish things. When he develops support for a good concept, Leadership takes it away from him and passes it on to someone else. Does the identity of the person on the bill matter? Massie drafted it, garnered support, and it was signed into law.
Instead of investing time, money, and skill in Massie’s replacement, what should Republicans be doing?
In fact, this battle is making it more difficult for us to concentrate on expanding the Majority.
Conservative libertarianism is the counterculture philosophy that attracts young Republican voters, much like the Democrat Socialist is the subculture that inspires young Democratic supporters.
When they witness people spending millions to pursue Massie in 2026, what will happen to them?
These young, sincere believers are needed as volunteers and voters by Republicans across. They are leaving the party because of this. Massie is not advocating for abortion, gun control, or child transition. He holds views that make sense for a conservative. The primary criticism is that he is overly rigid and idealistic.
Spend millions gaining purple seats and dismantling the wide coalition Trump has established rather than wasting them on Massie.
Wait till Trump has to deal with a Democratic House if he believes that Massie is a nasty person.
