Body of 80-year-old Woman Found in Suitcase on Sauvie Island; 54-year-old Suspect Arrested for Murder

KHN Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies detained a man on Thursday who they believe killed an 80-year-old lady whose corpse was discovered in a suitcase on the banks of the Willamette River earlier this week, officials said Friday.

Judy Hurley, also known as Judy Fivecoats, was discovered dead Monday on the river’s west bank on Sauvie Island’s south end, about a mile from Wapato Bridge. A medical examiner determined that she died as the result of homicide.

Michael Darwin Moody, a suspect, was arrested in a St. Johns area apartment around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Moody, 54, is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree mistreatment of a corpse. The sheriff’s office requested that anybody with information about the case phone 503-988-0560 and refer to case number 25-6042.
