Cleveland Braces for 104°F Heat Index Thursday as Extreme Heat Grips I-77 Region

On Thursday, July 24, extreme heat with temperatures in the triple digits and hazardous air is expected to cover the northeastern region of Ohio.

Residents will be put in danger by a lethal combination of high humidity and ozone levels.

There is a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday across a significant portion of north-central and northeast Ohio, where the heat index readings may reach 104 degrees Fahrenheit at their highest point.

Those cities that are located along and to the west of the Interstate 77 corridor, such as Cleveland, Akron, Elyria, and Canton, are expected to experience the greatest temperatures, as stated by the National Weather Service Cleveland.

In addition, an Air Quality Advisory is in effect during the whole day because of the high ground-level ozone.

Active participation in the great outdoors for extended periods of time should be avoided by vulnerable populations, such as children, elderly people, and people with respiratory conditions.

It is strongly recommended that residents remain home, make use of air conditioning, drink plenty of water, and restrict their exercise outside to the morning or evening hours.

A number of communities might have public cooling centers offered to their residents. Check the listings in the area.

Thursday will start off with a sunny sky and a maximum temperature of approximately 93 degrees Fahrenheit. After 2 o’clock, there is a growing possibility of thunderstorms.

During storms, the amount of new rainfall should continue to be low, although it may increase. Winds blow from the southwest, which contributes to the feeling of steaminess.
