Deadly Crash on I-95 Near Pompano Beach Leaves 50-year-old Motorcyclist Dead, Road Closed for Hours

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (KHN)A 50-year-old man died in a crash early Thursday morning, prompting troopers and deputies to restrict a section of Interstate 95 in Broward County for approximately six hours.

At around 12:40 a.m., a 2012 Kawasaki motorbike and a 2024 Kia Soul sports utility vehicle collided on I-95 northbound, north of Atlantic Boulevard, near Pompano Beach.

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the Fort Lauderdale guy died while riding the Kawasaki, and a 29-year-old male from Lighthouse Point was driving the Kia Soul SUV.

The Kawasaki was behind the Kia in the outside paved travel lane, “traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop, slow, or take an evasive maneuver,” according to FHP.

According to FHP, the Kawasaki collided with the Kia and came to a stop on its side, facing north on the outside paved shoulder, while the Kia faced north on the right paved shoulder.

Firefighters transported the biker to Broward North Hospital, where he died. Broward Sheriff’s deputies also responded. The crash was being investigated.
