KHN – A Metro Detroit family is mourning after their son was shot and died on Coyle Street near Keeler on Detroit’s west side a week ago. Edward Clark and his family are still dealing with a tragic personal loss, as his son, Edward Clark III, was one of two people slain in an early morning shooting at the family home.
He was 39.
“Edward was one of the most beautiful kids,” Clark explained. “He lights up the room. He comes in and makes everyone happy. “He makes everybody happy.”
According to the family, the other victim was a woman in her twenties who was one of Edward’s close friends. The Clark family claims the accused shooter was their nephew, whom Detroit Police detained following the shooting.
“He has mental issues,” Clark explained. “If he’s not taking his meds properly, no one can tell us what happened because the only three people who know are him and the other two down there.” Two of them aren’t here anymore.”
What we don’t know: The motivation for the shooting is still unknown. The news of Edward Clark’s death sent shockwaves throughout the community, surprising his coworkers at ‘Jax Kar Wash’ in Southfield.
“He was a good, loving, caring person,” said coworker Charles Wilson. “He was very kind, down to Earth. I just saw a friendly person who worked here. I’m not sure how many years ago, but I’ve been here a little while, and, unfortunately, he had to leave.”
Meanwhile, Edward’s family finds it hard to say goodbye. They have set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
