Family Seeks Justice After Fatal Road Rage Incident in Castro Valley

Castro Valley, CA — A family is mourning the loss of a beloved father and grandfather, Jason Elola, who died following an alleged road rage incident in Castro Valley. Authorities are asking for witnesses and anyone with cellphone footage to come forward as the investigation continues.

Flowers and candles now line Wilbeam Avenue, marking the spot where Elola was attacked on Saturday night. He later died in the hospital from his injuries.

“He was a good man. He didn’t deserve this. He was taken — he was stolen from us,” said his wife, Gabrielle Elola, who was in the car at the time. “So that is what justice looks like for us — people coming forward. Find it in your heart to be honest. That is all we can ask.”

What Happened Saturday Night

The incident began around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, when the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to reports of a car crash and altercation that may have started as road rage. According to investigators, the crash escalated into a physical fight between the two drivers.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office told ABC7 News that the other driver initially left the scene, but later contacted CHP to report his involvement.

“CHP personnel instructed the driver to return to the scene, where they cooperated with responding officers,” the statement said.

ABC7 News cameras captured the moment the suspect spoke with officers, describing what led to the confrontation.

“I cut him off accidentally and he just plowed me, right behind me,” the driver said. “Then he jumps in front of me. That’s when we collide. He raises his hands. As soon as he attacks me… he hits the ground.”

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and later booked into jail.

Family Calls for Witnesses to Come Forward

Authorities believe there were multiple witnesses to the altercation and that cellphone video may exist showing the moments before and after the fatal confrontation. Investigators are urging anyone with footage or information to contact their tip line.

“He was just protecting his family. He was just protecting his daughters and me,” said Gabrielle. “Anybody would do that for their family. That’s what he did.”

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line is (510) 667-3622.

A Family’s Pain and Plea for Justice

At a vigil held Monday, Elola’s eldest son, Angel, shared the heartbreaking moment he learned of his father’s death.

“There are nine kids and four grandkids. Not only does he deserve justice, but for our sakes as well,” Angel said. “We deserve justice.”

The family described Jason as a devoted father and grandfather who worked hard and lived for his children. Friends, relatives, and neighbors gathered to honor his life and call for accountability.

“He was our protector — he did what any dad would do,” said a family friend at the vigil.

Community Support

A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the Elola family as they cope with funeral expenses and the loss of their loved one.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives review witness statements and potential video evidence.
