Five People Injured in Severe Multi-vehicle Crash on Icy NC HWY 73 Bridge in Huntersville, Near McGuire Nuclear Station

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (KHN) – Five persons were injured in a multi-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Huntersville, according to medics and rescue workers.

Huntersville Fire reported that workers were responding to a multi-vehicle accident on NC Hwy 73’s bridge over the Catawba River. Crews stated that the area surrounding the McGuire Nuclear Station was quite ice.

Firefighters had to rescue at least one stuck inside their car.

According to medics, five persons were injured in the crash. Mecklenburg and Lincoln County units arrived at the accident scene.

Medics say this is the “most severe accident here in Huntersville.”

Huntersville Fire said the bridge would be blocked until the icy conditions were addressed and remedied. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
