Florida Elementary School Staff Arrested for False Imprisonment of Non-Verbal Student

A disturbing incident has come to light at G.D. Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary School in Bradenton, Florida, where a seven-year-old non-verbal student was subjected to false imprisonment. The arrest of a third employee in connection with this case underscores the severity of the situation.

Hydalmy Ortiz, 41, a teacher’s aide at the elementary school, was apprehended on Thursday, Feb. 22. This follows the earlier arrests of Carina Chindamo, 31, on Feb. 6, and Taylor Internicola, 39, on Feb. 8. These arrests shed light on a deeply troubling occurrence that has shocked the local community and beyond.

The incident came to light when Takeila Jones, the mother of the victim, Jhalil Richardson, received a call from a child protection services investigator and then from the school principal. She was informed of an incident involving her son being tied to a chair. Upon arrival at the school, Jones was briefed on the situation, learning that it was the school’s guardian who observed the abuse via the surveillance system and promptly reported it.

According to detectives from the Bradenton Police Department, security camera footage captured the distressing scene on the school playground. Chindamo, an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher, and Internicola, a teacher’s aide, were seen tying the child’s wrists with a nylon rope typically used for guiding students in line. The rope was then fastened around the chair’s leg, and the child was left seated on the ground behind the chair for approximately an hour.

Chindamo was initially arrested on a battery charge, which has since been elevated to false imprisonment. This underscores the seriousness of the offense and the potential harm inflicted on the vulnerable child.

The Bradenton Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with a focus on determining if there are other victims who may have suffered similar mistreatment. This incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community, prompting calls for increased vigilance and accountability within the educational system to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
