Beginning at noon on Saturday, extreme heat will be sweeping through the state of Missouri and the southwest region of Illinois, causing heat index readings to reach 110 degrees and triggering an urgent warning for millions of people.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis has stated that the Extreme Heat Warning will continue to be in effect until 7 o’clock on Wednesday evening for the municipalities of St. Louis, Columbia, Jefferson City, and a significant portion of the central and eastern regions of Missouri, as well as Madison, St. Clair, Randolph, and Monroe counties in the state of Illinois.
It is anticipated that the combination of daytime highs and tropical humidity will result in situations that are hazardous for several days.
People living in the counties of St. Charles, Franklin, Boone, and Gasconade, as well as those living throughout the entire metropolitan area of St. Louis, should get ready for an elevated risk of heat-related illnesses.
It is possible that vulnerable groups will be exposed to danger on roads, sidewalks, and public transportation. School activities, jobs done outside, and events held throughout the summer may be subject to postponements or cancellations.

It is strongly recommended by local organizations that everyone consumes water on a regular basis, stays in places that have air conditioning, and checks on elderly relatives and neighbors.
It is recommended by the authorities that individuals refrain from engaging in vigorous activities between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., wear lightweight clothing, and never leave children or pets in automobiles.
Warnings of Extreme Heat Weather will continue to be in effect until Wednesday night. In the event that the heat continues throughout the late week, more advisories may be issued.
