Omaha Forecast Heat and Humidity Through Monday, Cooldown by Tuesday

This weekend, a dangerous stretch of heat is rolling over eastern Nebraska, with heat index values reaching as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday and Monday.

This poses a major risk for heat illness, particularly in urban locations such as Omaha, Lincoln, and Bellevue.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, the odds of storms today are still limited to areas south of Interstate 80 around the borders of Kansas and Missouri, with opportunities for isolated thunderstorms ranging from twenty percent to seventy percent.

If this is not the case, the more pressing problem is the oppressive heat that is building up.

Beginning on Saturday, high temperatures will begin to soar into the nineties, and the humidity will cause heat index values across the state to reach the triple digits.

There will be widespread “feels like” temperatures of 105 to 115 degrees Celsius on Sunday and Monday, which will be the hottest days of the week.

During the high afternoon hours, officials strongly recommend that citizens remain home, consume a large amount of water, and refrain from engaging in vigorous activity outside.

It is important to take additional precautions when dealing with vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly.

Although there is a possibility that isolated showers will return on Monday night, which would provide some relief, Tuesday may bring a modest cooler with highs that are closer to the upper 80s, but the humidity will still be high.

There is a possibility that heat advisories will be issued in the near future, and additional updates are anticipated to be released this weekend.
