SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (KHN) – Police investigators charged a 32-year-old man with attempting to kidnap a 16-year-old girl who fought back early Thursday morning in South Miami. According to a police report, the adolescent girl was “yelling and crying for help” while Brian Gamboa attacked her on Southwest 86 Street, near 62 Avenue.
Gamboa, of the Bronx, New York, grabbed her by the shoulders and back of her neck when she struck him with her cell phone at 12:30 a.m.
According to authorities, the girl said that Gamboa attempted to get her into a blue automobile with a paper temporary tag but fled, leaving behind a Gucci hat.
According to the police report, the youngster, who had lacerations and scratches all over her body, informed them Gamboa reeked of alcohol.
Deputies from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office stopped Gamboa between Southwest 85 Street and 57 Avenue, where they discovered “lacerations on his face, elbows, and knees” as well as “a contusion” on his head.
“Luckily, the victim fought back,” said South Miami Police Sgt. Fernando Bosch. “She was very brave, fought back, and was able to get away.”
Miami-Dade officers detained Gamboa, and when South Miami detectives inquired about the Gucci hat, he stated that it belonged to him and that deputies had “removed it” during the traffic stop.
“He suffered some injuries while trying to get the girl in the car,” Bosch informed me. “And he gave a story that he was at a beach and got the injuries from sea shells.”
Local 10 News went to an address provided for Gamboa, but no one answered the door.
According to inmate records, Miami-Dade correctional authorities booked Gamboa into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Thursday at 6 a.m.
Gamboa faced charges of attempted kidnapping and violence against a child. His bond totaled $30,000. He also had a warrant out for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage.
