Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., stated that she is safe despite receiving a bomb threat via email on Monday, according to her local police station.
An email with a bomb threat was sent to me by the assistant chief of police for the Rome Police Department. On X, Greene expressed his gratitude to the whole Rome Police Department for their prompt and professional response in guaranteeing his safety.
According to a statement from Greene’s offices, the Rome, Georgia, police department sent a bomb squad to her residence to make sure there was no threat. In her post on X, Greene posted a video of what looked to be a bomb squad member searching her mailbox for an explosive device.
Rome police spokesperson Kelly Madden stated that after ruling out an immediate danger, the department sent the multiagency Floyd County Bomb Squad to Greene’s residence and handed the case over to the FBI. The FBI acknowledged that it was helping with the inquiry.
In a statement, it stated, “As it is an ongoing investigation, we do not currently have any additional information.” “The FBI remains vigilant and continues to work closely with our state and local partners to mitigate threats to the public, including threats to specific persons.”
A request for comment on Monday was not immediately answered by U.S. Capitol Police. The threat against Greene comes after a slew of threats against Congressmen that turned out to be untrue.
On Saturday, Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., received a bomb threat, and on Thanksgiving Day, at least seven other Democratic members received similar notifications.
Screenshots of the email threat, which claimed that a pipe bomb was in her mailbox, were included in Greene’s office’s statement. The screenshots have not been independently confirmed by NBC News.
Ever since she joined Congress in 2021, Greene has been the target of numerous swatting events.
