HARLINGEN, Texas (KHN) – The Texas Department of Public Safety reported the arrest of two suspects in connection with a tragic hit-and-run crash that killed a 15-year-old.
Rodolfo Ruiz Jr., 45, of Laredo, and his wife, Lluliana Milera Ruiz, 43, of Harlingen, have been detained in connection with the death of 15-year-old Kayden Schwartz.
At 3:03 a.m. on February 9, troopers responded to a tragic hit-and-run collision on FM 1846 near County Road 578 in San Benito.
A preliminary investigation found that a biker, identified as Schwartz, was headed northbound on FM 1846 when an unknown vehicle struck him from behind.
The suspected car departed the area without assistance. Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

On February 10, Rodolfo, Lluliana, and their lawyer called the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office.
The couple came forward and told investigators that Rodolfo was the driver and Lluliana was the passenger in the tragic hit-and-run crash involving the 2023 Ford F-250.
On Saturday, February 22, the DPS issued an arrest warrant for the pair.
Rodolfo was charged with causing a fatal collision and tampering with/forging evidence. Lluliana was accused of failing to report a felony.
Both have been booked into Cameron County Jail.
