STONECREST, Ga. (KHN) – An 11-year-old girl was killed in a multi-car crash on I-20 westbound in DeKalb County early Monday morning, which halted traffic for hours.
According to the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department, seven persons were hurt in the incident that occurred in Stonecrest.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the youngster who was slain as Nevaeh Govan. According to police, a male was badly injured in the crash, as was a nine-year-old.
According to DeKalb County Fire, two youngsters, including the 11-year-old who died, were ejected from a vehicle, while two adults were trapped inside and badly injured. Three more people “sustained moderate injuries,” according to the fire department.
According to DeKalb County Fire, all seven victims have been transported to surrounding hospitals.
DeKalb County police say they responded to a reported three-car crash on I-20 WB near Turner Hill Road at around 1:46 a.m. Police said a westbound SUV collided with the median wall and wound up perpendicular to the highway. Another vehicle struck the SUV, causing it to spin, and then another slammed it again.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) reported that four automobiles were involved in the incident, but DeKalb County Fire discovered six vehicles “disabled across the roadway.”
The SUV collided with the median wall, and police are investigating the cause. For hours, all lanes were closed as first responders, including DeKalb County Fire and Police Department units, came to the area.

The lanes reopened around 6:27 a.m., according to GDOT.
