LILLINGTON, N.C. (KHN) – Two separate crashes in Harnett County killed people on Sunday.
The first occurred Sunday morning, with a youngster killed in a multi-vehicle incident on the 1100 block of NC Highway 210, south of Lillington. Responding units discovered that the incident involved four automobiles.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said that a youngster was located in serious condition and died as a result of their injuries at the site.
According to authorities, a white Ford Expedition drove left of center and sideswiped two pickup trucks before colliding with a Toyota passenger car head-on. The driver of the Ford was the only one in the car. The Toyota carried three persons, including the child.
At least two individuals were sent to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Both truck drivers were assessed and released by EMS on the spot.
The NCSHP stated that the cause of the incident is currently being probed. No names have been revealed yet. Later, a head-on crash on US Highway 421 in northern Harnett County killed a driver.
Just after 6 p.m., emergency personnel were summoned to US Highway 421 and Sloan Road. They discovered a Ford Explorer Sport and a Chevrolet Tahoe that had collided.
According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the Ford Explorer died at the site.
The Tahoe, which was off the road, had the driver pinned within the seat. Another parent and three kids were also inside.
Rescuers extricated the motorist, who was subsequently transported to a hospital by helicopter. The others in the Tahoe were transported by ground to local hospitals for treatment.
The severity of the injuries and their ailments were not immediately known. A state trooper on the scene said that the Ford looked to have crossed the center line and collided with the Tahoe.
US Highway 421 was stopped for more than three hours while investigators collected evidence and cleared the scene.
