A 15-year-old boy has died after being shot in the chest at the Clarksville Speedway and Fairgrounds on Saturday night, according to local police.
The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. on June 1 during an event at the fairgrounds. Clarksville Police officers were called to the scene following reports of a person being shot. When officers arrived, they found the teenage boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency responders immediately took the teen to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. However, due to the seriousness of his injury, he was later flown by helicopter to a hospital in Nashville. Sadly, the boy passed away from his injuries on Sunday morning.
The Clarksville Police Department’s Special Operations Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives have not released the name of the victim due to his age, and they have not confirmed any suspects or arrests as of now.
Police are urging anyone who was at the fairgrounds that night and may have witnessed the shooting or has information about what happened to come forward.
