18-Year-Old Arrested in Connection With Hamilton Popeyes Shooting Incident

A serious shooting incident happened outside a Popeyes restaurant in the Township of Hamilton, New Jersey, where a man was shot in the head. The incident took place on June 10, and police say an 18-year-old has now been arrested in connection with the case.

The Hamilton Police Department responded to a report of a shooting around 4:13 PM at the Popeyes located on the 1300 block of Route 33.

When officers reached the scene, they found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head. He was quickly taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

According to police, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Amir Johnson, was taken into custody without any trouble at his home in Hamilton. He has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons-related charges.

Police believe the shooting happened after a fight between the two individuals in the drive-thru area of the restaurant. Authorities have not revealed what caused the argument, but confirmed it was not a random act. They said both the victim and the suspect knew each other.

After the shooting, Johnson allegedly fled the scene. But with the help of witnesses and surveillance footage, police were able to quickly track him down.

Amir Johnson is now being held at the Mercer County Correction Center while he waits for his court appearance.
