Caught on Camera: Masked Intruders Strike NJ Neighborhoods Overnight

New Jersey continues to hold the top spot in the country for property taxes—by a wide margin. According to the latest state data, the average property tax bill in 2024 has crossed the $10,000 mark for the first time, reaching $10,095.

The year-over-year increase of 3.2% in property taxes is a slight drop compared to the 3.0% increase seen in 2023. Still, the financial burden on homeowners remains steep.

Despite the ongoing fiscal challenges faced by local governments, a few towns in New Jersey have successfully managed to reduce property taxes for their residents.

Wall Street Suffers Worst Day Since 2020 Amid Trump Tariff Shock

A wave of financial panic hit Wall Street on Thursday as global markets reacted to President Donald Trump’s latest set of tariffs.

The S&P 500 plunged 4.8%, marking its worst single-day performance since the COVID-19 pandemic crash in 2020.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,679 points, or 4%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite plummeted 6%. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks smaller U.S. companies, fell 6.6%, entering bear market territory with a 20% drop from its peak.

Investors had anticipated a broad announcement on tariffs, but were still caught off guard by what analysts described as the “worst-case scenario.”

The move raised fears of a damaging mix of slowed economic growth and rising inflation. Markets across all sectors—Big Tech, crude oil, the U.S. dollar, and even gold—saw sharp declines.

Over Two Dozen Anti-MAGA Protests Planned Across New Jersey This Saturday

More than 1,100 protests are scheduled nationwide on Saturday, April 5, as part of a coordinated “National Day of Action” against former President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk. Of those, 26 events will take place in New Jersey.

Organized by the “Hands Off!” movement, the protests aim to oppose what they call “the Trump-Musk billionaire takeover” and ongoing threats to democratic institutions.

“This is a nationwide mobilization to stop the most brazen power grab in modern history,” the group said in a press release. The demonstrations are expected to include non-violent visibility events and community meetings in all 50 states.

Masked Burglars Target Central NJ Homes, Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Authorities in Central New Jersey are warning residents to remain vigilant after a string of early-morning burglary attempts in upscale neighborhoods.

East Windsor Police responded to a break-in on Copland Court around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Surveillance footage captured three masked suspects—one wielding a crowbar—attempting to enter the home through windows before forcing open the front door.

The suspects found a car key inside but left without taking anything after failing to start the vehicle.

Just days earlier, South River Police investigated a similar incident at 3:51 a.m. on March 28. Police say the incidents may be connected and are urging residents to lock their homes and vehicles.

NJ Teen Can’t Be Tried as Adult for Cop Killing, So Feds Step In

A 14-year-old boy charged in the fatal shooting of Newark police Detective Joseph Azcona cannot be tried as an adult under New Jersey state law. However, federal prosecutors are stepping in.

U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, who took office this week, announced that she is pursuing federal charges that would allow the teen to be prosecuted as an adult.

The suspect, a known gang member, allegedly shot Azcona during a police encounter. Under current state law, juveniles under 15 cannot be tried as adults, regardless of the crime.

“The message is very clear: If you shoot a cop, you’re getting tried as an adult,” Habba told the New York Post. “I don’t care how old you are. We’re going to clean up New Jersey.”

The 14-year-old suspect is believed to be affiliated with the Bloods gang, the same group as an 18-year-old recently arrested by U.S. Marshals. Azcona was 26 years old.
