From June 23 to 25, the Enzweiler Building Institute (EBI) kindly held its yearly Summer Camp for Youth, giving 41 high school students a special opportunity to get practical experience in the skilled trades. Students had the chance to learn about potential career options in construction and building technology during the three-day camp, which was hosted at EBI’s campus in Erlanger.

Under the direction of knowledgeable instructors and local business experts, camp participants rotated through interesting workshops in carpentry, welding, plumbing, and electrical, gaining practical experience in each field. Along with learning the new technical abilities, students also gained knowledge of problem-solving techniques, teamwork, and the variety of prospects in the highly sought-after trades sector.

A collaboration with NaviGo Scholars, a regional job preparedness program that assists in connecting youth with educational and employment possibilities, made this year’s camp feasible.

According to Diane McConnell, Director of Workforce Development for the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky, the camp’s objective is to expose kids to professions they might not have otherwise thought about. We want students to leave feeling motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the prospect of pursuing a career in the skilled crafts.

By encouraging young people to pursue professions in construction, the EBI Summer Camp remains a crucial program in tackling the skilled labor shortage in the Northern Kentucky area. Parents commended the program for its impact, quality, and structure, and many children expressed excitement about coming back for additional training.
