A former substitute teacher in Marshalltown, Iowa, is facing serious allegations after being accused of inappropriate conduct with a student.
The incident, which took place at Miller Middle School, has led to the arrest of 26-year-old Dylan Franklin Laubenthal.
According to the Marshalltown Police Department, the incident happened in April while Laubenthal was employed as a substitute teacher at the school.
Officials say the allegations involve Laubenthal hugging and kissing a student. Once the school administration was made aware of the situation, they quickly notified law enforcement and removed Laubenthal from the classroom.
Following an investigation, police arrested Laubenthal on May 24. He has been charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, a serious offense under Iowa law. Authorities clarified that the student involved is under 18, and the behavior violated the trust expected from individuals in educational roles.
Marshalltown Community School District confirmed that Laubenthal was working as a substitute teacher and that he is no longer employed by the district.
The district stated that it acted swiftly after learning of the accusations by removing Laubenthal and contacting the police.
The case has now been handed over to the Marshall County Attorney’s Office, and Laubenthal is expected to face legal proceedings soon. His bond was set at $10,000, and jail records show he was released after posting bail.
