Georgia Grand Jury Declines to Charge Woman in Boyfriend's Shooting Death

A grand jury in Burke County, Georgia, has decided not to charge Hannah Cobb, a white woman, in the shooting death of her Black boyfriend, Telvin Osborne. The decision, known as a “no bill,” means Cobb will not face charges for the incident that occurred on February 23, 2025.

On the morning of the incident, Cobb called 911, stating she was either “clearing or cleaning” her firearm when it discharged, fatally striking Osborne in the chest.

She claimed the shooting was accidental. However, Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams later indicated there was no evidence supporting the claim that the gun was being cleaned at the time. He also noted that alcohol was involved and that the couple had been out drinking before the incident.

Initially, Cobb was arrested and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter. She was released on a $25,000 bond with conditions, including surrendering all firearms and undergoing monitoring.

The grand jury’s decision not to indict Cobb has sparked discussions and concerns within the community.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged potential unrest, urging residents to remain peaceful and emphasizing the importance of the grand jury’s role in the legal process.

Osborne’s death and the subsequent legal proceedings have drawn national attention, highlighting ongoing conversations about race, justice, and accountability in the United States.
