A man in San Antonio, Texas, allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend four times—hitting her in the groin, hip, abdomen, and back—as she tried to run away after telling him they should “go their separate ways” following a dinner at Chili’s, police say.
Isaac Rivas, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the shooting, which happened late Wednesday night and left the 26-year-old woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to CBS affiliate KENS. Her identity has not been released, and her current condition remains unknown.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KENS and ABC affiliate KSAT, Rivas became violent after his ex-girlfriend told him it was time to stop seeing each other.
The two had been meeting weekly as friends since their breakup. After dinner at Chili’s, she was driving Rivas in her truck and asked where he wanted to be dropped off, which allegedly enraged him.
“It’s going to get f—ing ugly if you don’t take me where you’re going,” Rivas allegedly told her, according to the affidavit.
Fearing for her safety, she pulled into Nite Owlz Bar at 1843 Rigsby and ran inside. Rivas followed, demanding she return to the truck.
She attempted to use pepper spray, but it malfunctioned. When Rivas asked if she planned to do anything about the situation, she said no and apologized.
As she walked back to her vehicle and tried to flee, Rivas allegedly fired 11 shots, hitting her four times.
He fled the scene but was later found with his mother, who had reportedly picked him up. Police arrested him on Friday, and he is being held at the Bexar County Jail. He is expected to appear in court this week.
