Drivers are being informed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) that the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge (U.S. 25/42/127) in Kenton County would be completely closed for an extended period of time in order to give personnel time to finish any last-minute repairs.
Initially, the bridge was supposed to reopen on Monday, July 1 at 5 a.m. In time for the hectic Fourth of July holiday weekend, contractors now plan to reopen the bridge to traffic by Thursday, July 3 at 5 a.m.
While finishing the steel and modular joint work, personnel discovered more repair needs, necessitating the extension. The bridge is still blocked to cars, however pedestrian access is being preserved at this time. The closure limits encompass a distance of around 0.42 miles, from the intersection of KY 8 W. 4th Street, mile point 13.45 in Covington, to the Kentucky/Ohio state line, mile point 13.87.
There is a designated detour that uses the Taylor Southgate Bridge and the Brent Spence Bridge. Drivers should anticipate more traffic on nearby bridges and delays. Make a plan, depart early, and think about other options.
On April 22, 2024, work on repairing the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge got underway. The project included steel repair, approach/truss drainage repairs, joint replacement, and joint sealing. The project was expanded to include steel repairs and modular joint repairs to guarantee the bridge will continue to function well for many years to come.
The Daniel Carter Beard Bridge fire on Interstate 471 caused a delay in part of the project. On Tuesday, May 27, contractors went back to work on the project to start the last repairs needed to finish it.
The $2.8 million project will be carried out by M&M Services Co. Inc. on behalf of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. It is anticipated that the renovation will be finished by the middle of July.
Due to bad weather or other unanticipated events, project timetables are subject to vary.
