Caltrans Announces Weekend Closure for 134 Freeway in Los Angeles County for Drainage System Installation
Caltrans has scheduled a 55-hour closure for parts of the 134 Freeway in Glendale, Los Angeles County, to facilitate the installation of a new drainage system. This necessary infrastructure upgrade will see closures from 11 p.m. on Friday, April 5, to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 8.
Affected segments include up to three eastbound lanes and the Glendale Avenue ramps between Glendale Avenue and Verdugo Road. To mitigate impact, at least two lanes plus the carpool lane will remain open, with HOV lane access granted to all drivers, including those without passengers, during the closure period.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays. Live updates on current traffic closures are available via the Caltrans Quickmap.
This closure is a critical component of a comprehensive $50.5 million re-pavement project, funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program, slated for completion in summer 2024. Local residents and businesses may experience noise, vibrations, and dust from the construction work. Caltrans notes that the construction schedule may be adjusted based on weather conditions or other unexpected factors.
