Makayla Trevor has been named the 2025 Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship recipient by the Beechwood Band Boosters.

From 2019 to 2025, Trevor played for the Beechwood Marching Tigers, where she was a BOA National Semifinalist in 2019 and 2022 and won a KMEA State Championship in 2019 and 2021. She was a part of the Beechwood Marching Tigers when they were given the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Shield Award (2022), which is given to top high school marching bands that are globally ranked at an exceptionally high caliber.

For a year (2025), Trevor also played in a jazz ensemble. Trevor also held the positions of section leader (2024–2025) and assistant section leader (2023–2024) for the marching band front ensemble and indoor percussion.

Outside of instrumental music, Trevor worked as the Beechwood musical’s sound assistant from 2022 to 2024.

Eastern Kentucky University has awarded her a scholarship.

Among her service endeavors were her roles as manager of the Beechwood Brew and volunteer at La Soupe.

According to one teacher, Makayla has shown an unrelenting dedication to her studies and her participation in the marching band. It’s an easy task to juggle the demands of AP coursework with the rigorous schedule of a committed musician, yet Makayla has continuously succeeded in both.

In 2014, the Beechwood Band Boosters, in collaboration with Joseph Menez, created the Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship to commemorate the memories of his late wife, Sarah Menez. Every year, a senior at Beechwood High School who has best embodied Sarah Menez’s character, musical ability, academic promise, and acceptance into an accredited college or university is given a scholarship for tuition support.

Trevor expressed his gratitude to the scholarship committee for recognizing him with this award and, more significantly, his pride in being one of the students this scholarship has helped throughout the years.

According to Andy Cullison, president of the Beechwood Band Booters, “we are happy to have this scholarship to promote purposes and qualities of character, musicianship, and academic achievement in our students.” But choosing one student from so many excellent applicants is never easy.

It is possible to make a gift to the Beechwood Band Boosters specifically for the Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship, and contributions are accepted. The mailing address for Band Boosters is 54 Beechwood Road, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky 41017.
