A Portage man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for attempting to possess over 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.
Angel Flores, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge in December 2024.
According to the DOJ, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI began investigating a major cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking operation in Wisconsin’s Western District in late 2022.
During their investigation, authorities intercepted communications between Flores and his California-based supplier.
Officials stated that Flores was acquiring multiple kilograms of cocaine and significant quantities of methamphetamine, which he distributed across Wisconsin, including in Madison and Portage.
During sentencing, the judge noted Flores had trafficked large amounts of cocaine into Wisconsin daily over an extended period, affecting nearly two-thirds of the state.
The judge also highlighted Flores’s leadership role, calling his drug distribution network “one of the highest levels of dealing in this district” and emphasizing that such large-scale trafficking would not be tolerated.
In March 2025, four other individuals, including a DeForest business owner, were sentenced for their involvement in Flores’s operation.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation was among several agencies that took part in the investigation.
