‘Presente and Proud’ to amplify queer Latino voices ahead of Charlotte Pride

Prior to Charlotte Pride this weekend, a panel discussion including diverse perspectives from Charlotte’s LGBTQ+ community is scheduled.

“Presente & Proud” will feature the voices of the LGBT Latino community in Charlotte. Three speakers are anticipated to speak at the event about issues like transgender safety concerns and how queer people may support one another during this uncertain political climate.

The event is being organized in collaboration with the Hispanic Federation by Races Latino Arts, whose executive director is Alex Pi eres. Such discussions are uncommon, he noted.

“That’s something we wanted to celebrate and see become a standard from Charlotte,” Pieres stated. Hopefully, this is making it possible to develop it more and more across the city.

Ahead of this weekend’s 25th annual Charlotte Pride, which has seen some firms withdraw their sponsorship, there will be a panel debate. However, Pi eres claims that it won’t prevent LGBTQ locals from celebrating.

“The LGBTQ and Latinx communities are very special because, even in the darkest moments, these celebratory aspects of those cultures and communities can never be tamed,” Pi eres added.

The panel discussion on Friday is free to attend and begins at 6:30 p.m. at Viva Collective CLT in uptown.
